The Galaxy S9 Plus was our favorite Android phone of the last year. The software updates for the device have been pretty timely too, and it’s also eligible for Android Q update next year that will also get you new One UI 2.0 skin from Samsung. On this page, let’s check out the updates released for the various variants of the S9 Plus, including those at T-Mobile, Sprint, AT&T, and Verizon.

Android Q update

Even with Galaxy S10 out, the S9 Plus remains eligible for the Android Q update from Samsung. SO, all the new features that Google is baking into Android Q, you can be sure that Samsung will treat your Galaxy S9 Plus with them.

When will Samsung release Android Q update for Galaxy S9 Plus?

Well, that’s not going to happen anytime soon. That’s a hard truth. You may even see the likes of OnePlus 7 Pro and OnePlus 7, OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T, Huawei P30 and P30 Pro, even Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro get Android Q update without it begins to roll out for Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus.

That’s mainly because Samsung isn’t the fastest OEM to updates, which is also understandable because Samsung’s has to optimize its One UI for the new OS, which can be very consuming. This is something OnePlus doesn’t have to do because their UI is similar to stock Android UI.

Even though Huawei is able to roll out updates fairly quickly than Samsung, their initial rollout is limited to China only and it takes them a whole lot of time to expand the update to Europe and Asia because doesn’t leave the whole rollout deal very impressive.

One UI 2.0 update

With Android Q, Samsung will also release a newer version of custom skin too in the form of One UI 2.0. We don’t know what new features and changes in UI the One UI v2 will bring because there are no leaks available on that front right now, but we are looking forward to what Samsung has in store for us next year.

There’s a rumor that besides One UI 2.0, Samsung will also release One UI 2.1, but the latter will be exclusive to the Galaxy S11 handsets only.

All the older handsets, like the Galaxy S10 series, S9 series, Note 9, etc. will receive One UI 2.0 update only. Even older devices like Galaxy S8 series and Note 8 will miss out on the One UI 2.0 update because they are no longer eligible for Android Q.

Is your Galaxy S9 Plus stuck on update?

If your Galaxy S9 Plus is stuck on an old update, such that it doesn’t get any new OTA updates anymore, well here is what to do to solve this problem.

Basically, you can manually update your S9 Plus to get the latest update right away. There are two ways to do this.

The first method to update the S9 Plus manually is to use Samsung’s Smart Switch PC software, which downloads and updates your device to latest available software.

The second method is to download and install the update manually using Odin software, a well-know unofficial Samsung update software. For this method, download the firmware file of the latest update from our Galaxy S9 Plus firmware page, and install it using the guide given there.
