The Galaxy J5 2017 from Samsung, is a mid range device with a modest specsheet. The firmware, also dubbed as stock ROM is now available for download, and is a massive tool to fix J5 2017 if and when it is bricked. Especially, if you are looking to do some hackery on your J5 2017, it’s good to keep a firmware saved on PC so that you can manually install it if and when your device is bricked, to bring the device back to life easily.
Obviously, the software on Galaxy J5 2017 is nothing short of Nougat, so you’ll be using the same version of Android as the Samsung flagships currently do. As for Android 7.1.1 Nougat for the Galaxy J5 2017, we’re not entirely sure when Samsung would release it, but it has been under testing for quite a while now for various Galaxy devices.
The first device to sport this version of Android from Samsung could be the upcoming Galaxy J3 2017, which was spotted at TENAA recently. So, it wouldn’t hurt to say that Android 7.1.1 can make it to J5 2017 in next month or so.
The 2016 variant of the Galaxy J5 and the original Galaxy J5 will also receive their fair share of Nougat too, but it has been considerably delayed to September and October this year.

Coming to the specifications of the Galaxy J5 2017, rumors indicate that the smartphone remains quite the same as the current gen Galaxy J5 2016. The device may feature the Exynos 7870 chipset but may carry the same 2GB of RAM/16GB ROM and slightly diminished 3000mAh battery.
Samsung seems to have packed in a TFT display on the Galaxy J3 2017 as compared to the AMOLED panel on the J3 2016. Hopefully, we should be able to see the AMOLED panel remain on the 5.2-inch 720p display, for the Galaxy J5 2017.
