August 06, 2019: Motorola has shared the official release notes for August 2019 security patch for the Moto G7 Play in the United States. The rollout hasn’t officially begun, but it should commence in the coming days.

June 04, 2019: Motorola U.S. and Motorola UK have published the official release notes for the latest May 2019 security patch for the Moto G7 Play.
On top of the new security patch level, the updates also bring bug fixes and improved system-wide stability to the device. Although the Moto G7 Play is eligible for Android Q, the current software is still based on Pie.

It will take a few days before all G7 Play units receive the download notification, so be patient. FYI, it could take much longer for carrier variants.
March 28, 2019: Motorola has confirmed a new March 2019 security patch is coming soon to the Moto G7 Play. The release notes are live, meaning the rollout will begin pretty soon.

Android Q update

- The rollout could begin in Q1/Q2 2020
Devices in the Moto G series get at least one major Android OS upgrade. With the Motorola Moto G7 Play equipped with Android 9 Pie out of the box, it’s safe to assume that Android Q will be pushed to the device when the time comes.
On matters time, the wait could go all the way to Q1 or Q2 2020 before Android Q arrives.
