The upcoming ASUS Padfone 2 is going to be a high-end device that is no doubt going to cost an amount not many will be willing to spend or be able to afford, with its unique capability to double as a phone and a tablet. But for those that come in the “can drool over Padfone but not buy it” crowd (count me in), there’s another device that does a similar thing, called the TransPhone.
The TransPhone is a 3.5-inch smartphone that runs Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread and can fit into a 7-inch TransPad tablet. If you think it’s running an old version of Android, the accompanying hardware specs aren’t top of the line either. The TransPhone is powered by an old generation Snapdragon S1 processor, 512MB RAM, 512MB internal storage with a 32GB Class 10 microSD card, 5MP camera, WVGA displays, and the usual range of connectivity including Wi-Fi, GPS, HSPA.
The TransPhone and TransPad together will cost you $429.99. You can get an additional TransPad for $140 and a TransPhone for $379. To save some money, you can order the Family Pack which includes 2 TransPhones and TransPads + 1 extra TransPad + 1 extra Charger for $999, or the Business Pack with 10 TransPhones and TransPads + 5 extra TransPads + 5 extra chargers for $4499.
Hit the link below to order the TransPhone, but do take those specs into consideration before confirming the order, because even $429 is an amount I wouldn’t suggest spending for such a low-spec device, despite its phone-cum-tablet magic trick.
