What to know

  • The “Problem” bar is alcoholism – it fills up when you drink beer, vodka, etc..
  • To change it to “Thirst” quickly, you need to drink alcohol (like beer or vodka).
  • After saving, “Problem” returns because the character is still addicted; repeat the process 4–5 times to cure it.
  • During withdrawal, only drink milk, energy drinks, or water – no alcohol.

In My Winter Car, your character begins the game with an alcohol addiction, shown by the red “Problem” bar on the HUD. This isn’t a bug, it’s a core mechanic that fills as you drink and can cause serious effects if it maxes out. Many players aim to convert this bar into Thirst early on, making survival simpler and letting them focus on driving, jobs, and progression without constantly dealing with addiction.

How to change “Problem” to “Thirst” in about 10 seconds

Follow the steps below to quickly change the Problem bar to Thirst bar in My Winter Car:

Step 1: All bars should be at zero

Before starting, make sure Problem, Hunger, Stress, Urine, and Fatigue are all empty or as low as possible for a clean start.

Step 2: Eat potato chips

Eat two packets of potato chips to fully fill the Problem bar, as chips increase both thirst and the Problem meter.

Step 3: Drink the alcohol

Chug a full bottle of beer to convert the Problem bar into a Thirst bar.

Step 4: Quickly drink water & milk

Drink plenty of water and milk to lower the Thirst bar. Do not drink alcohol, as it will bring back the Problem bar.

Step 5: Repeat after saving

After saving and reloading, the “Problem” bar will return because your character is still addicted. To keep it as Thirst, repeat the process: drink alcohol to convert it, then save and reload. You’ll need to do this around 4–5 times (sometimes more) until the addiction is fully cleared.

How to fully cure alcoholism (stop “Problem” from returning)

If you want to permanently get rid of the “Problem” bar, you need to go through proper withdrawal:

  • After converting “Problem” to “Thirst” with alcohol, do not drink any more alcohol.
  • Only consume water, milk, energy drinks, or other non‑alcoholic drinks.
  • Save and reload the game several times (about 4–5 times) while staying sober.
  • Eventually, the game will treat the character as recovered, and “Problem” will stop coming back after saves.

What to Drink During Withdrawal

While curing the addiction, stick to non-alcoholic drinks like water, milk, and energy drinks to manage thirst safely. Avoid beer, vodka, or any alcohol, drinking even a little will reset your progress and cause the “Problem” bar to fill up again.

A Quick Fix for Alcohol Addiction

Turning “Problem” into “Thirst” is easy, drink a beer or vodka to convert it temporarily. To make it permanent, repeat the process 4-5 times after saving, while only consuming water, milk, or energy drinks in between. Once cured, you can play My Winter Car without the constant pressure of the Problem bar.
