Think app developers aren’t doing enough for the love of material design? Well, Google has you covered. Of all the last few updates to the Google Play Store, more material design is one thing that we are consistently witnessing on the app. Be it for the cool new animations from 5.3.6 update or the search bar going Google Now style in 5.4.10 update.
Anyway, today’s update to the Play Store, version 5.5.8, is a pretty significant jump in version number. The changes, however, aren’t all that much. There’s a new circular animation to app icons and featured images when you switch back and forth between an app and app listings. But weirdly enough, it’s currently limited to TV shows listings only.
Honestly, we didn’t find the circular animation cool enough. But there’s another cool feature coming with the 5.5.8 update called “Popular Opinions”. Play Store will now analyze user reviews for apps and then show popular opinions blurbs of things that several users say about an app. We weren’t able to see this on our devices, so maybe it’s limited to certain regions at this time, but folks over at Android Police did spot this, check out the screenie below:
Also, while installing the Play Store 5.5.8 APK, we noticed the app asking for a new permission “Advertising ID notification”. We’re not certain of what it really does though.
Anyway, as always, the Play Store 5.5.8 update will be gradually rolling out, but you can grab the 5.5.8 update APK from the download link below and install it like you’d install any other APK file on your Android device.
