It’s finally happening! Google today began rollout of Play Store version 5.0.31 with more Material design goodness and a new icon for the app. The last Google Play APK update (v4.9.13) bought most of the Material design stuff to the Play Store and now with the 5.0 update, things are set to get more close to the Android L standard. But there are a couple of more changes than Material Design. Let’s have a look:

NOTE: As this Play Store 5.0 update is all about Material design we naturally took it for a spin on Android L first, but turns the Play Store 5.0 update isn’t compatible to Android L. The app force closes on Android L at this time, so in case you install this be prepared to revert back to the v4.9.13.

New Marketbag

From Android Market to Play Store, the Google’s app market for Android devices has seen plenty of changes in icon design of the app. Googler Kirill Grouchnikov hasshared a screenshot on his Google+ profile showing the evolution of Play Store icon.

More Material Goodness

The Play store version 5.0.31 says for itself that it’s a Material knight, but ironically the damn thing doesn’t even work on the Android L. Anyway, it works fine on the Android 4.4 KitKat and there are a few new things we discovered for Material stuff.

You don’t have to read more anymore to see the What’s new section, it’s now also visible outside the read more section and has also moved to top inside the read more section. Also, the thing has received a green-ish background for itself to highlight.
