Below are the most recent versions of Play Store:

The factory image of Nexus 5 that was released yesterday after the Android 4.4 KitKat AOSP code announcement got us so engaged the other day with new Google Home Android 4.4 launcher, new Keyboard, new Google Now, new Hangouts, wallpapers and things that we almost didn’t pay any attention to the Play Store app inside the Nexus 5 factory image.

A slightly updated version of Play Store, v4.4.22, was found packaged in the Nexus 5 factory image. And that slight update, as you’d guess, doesn’t bring any new features to the Play Store.

The last update we received to the Play Store, v4.4.21, bought us the slide-out navigation menu, much like what we saw in other Google apps.

Anyway, this new update for the Play Store has come straight from the Nexus 5’s factory image, and even though nothing looks changed/updated we’d consider it performance improvement or bug fixer update, and go ahead, install it.

The update should soon be pushed for everyone, but if you prefer to install it now, grab the Play Store APK file from the downloads section below and install the file just like you’d install any other APK file. Download Google Play Store APK 4.4.22 [ad1]

STEP-BY-GUIDE TO INSTALL GOOGLE PLAY STORE APK 4.4.22

Below is a neat and noob proof guide for installing Google Play APK OR just about any APK.

  1. Transfer the APK you downloaded to your phone to either the internal memory or external SD card.
  2. Enable installation of Apps (APKs) from Unknown sources in your device’s settings. Here’s how:
    • Android 2.3 (and below) → Go to Settings » Application » check ‘Unknown Sources’ box.
Settings for Android 4.3 and below versions
    • Android 4.0 (and above) → Go to Settings » Security and check ‘Unknown Sources’ box.
Settings for Android 4.0 and above versions
  3. Now open the folder where you downloaded or transferred the play.4.4.22.apk file on your device using a file manager. If you don’t have one, we recommend the ES File Explorer File Manager app, however any file manager should work fine. └ If you downloaded the apk file on device, it should be in Download folder.
  4. Tap the Google Play Store APK file ‘play.4.4.22.apk’ to begin installation and you will be done in less than a minute.
